Value of the Olympic Swimming 50 pence coin 2011

The Swimming 50p coin celebrates Aquatics at the Olympic Games, with a design by Jonathan Olliffe depicting an athlete moving through the water. Flowing lines across the reverse represent the surface of the pool and create a sense of movement around the athlete.

Two versions of the design exist. On the extremely rare original version, the water lines pass directly across the athlete’s face, partially obscuring the features. The design was subsequently modified so that the face appears much clearer, with the water lines reduced in this area. This revised design became the common version issued for circulation.

Is the 50p coin Swimming part of a series?

These 2 issues form part of the Olympics 50p, a collection featuring 29 different sporting disciplines. Its two distinct versions make it particularly interesting, especially because of the considerable difference in rarity and value between them.
