Value of the Brexit 50 pence coin 2020

The standard 2020 issue is relatively common, but an extremely rare 50p version may exist with the 2019 date. Coins had already been struck in preparation for the UK’s originally planned departure from the European Union, but repeated Brexit delays meant that these pieces were no longer suitable and the vast majority were melted down. A very small number are believed to have escaped destruction, and any genuine example could potentially be worth a fortune. However, with so few known and no reliable mintage figure, establishing an accurate market price is extremely difficult.

For the regular version that eventually entered circulation, our table below provides the value of the 31st January 2020 50 pence according to its numismatic grade. As millions were issued, circulated examples are readily available and usually command only a modest premium, while coins preserved in excellent condition can be worth more to collectors.

The Peace and Prosperity 50p coin was issued to mark the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union on 31 January 2020, commonly known as Brexit. The event followed the 2016 referendum in which a majority of participating voters chose to leave the EU, bringing the country’s 47 years of membership to an end.

Rather than depicting a person or historical scene, the reverse carries the inscription “Peace, prosperity and friendship with all nations”, together with the date “31 January 2020”. The message was chosen to represent the UK’s relationship with other countries following its departure from the European Union.

Is the 50p coin Peace Prosperity and Friendship with all nations part of a series?

No. This issue does not form part of a commemorative series. It was created to mark a single major political event: the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union on 31 January 2020.
