The Pride 50p coin was issued in 2022 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first Pride march in the United Kingdom, which took place in London on 1 July 1972. The event became an important milestone in the history of LGBTQ+ rights and was followed by decades of campaigning for greater equality and recognition.

The reverse features a rainbow accompanied by the words “PRIDE”, “PROTEST”, “VISIBILITY”, “UNITY” and “EQUALITY”. The design reflects both the celebratory and campaigning aspects of the movement, while recognising the progress achieved during the 50 years since the first march.

Is the 50p coin Pride part of a series?

No. This design was created for one specific anniversary and was never intended to continue through additional releases. It therefore stands on its own rather than belonging to a broader commemorative collection.
